I designed an identity system for the Anderson Japanese Gardens’ annual Japanese Garden Festival, celebrating traditional Japanese culture, art, and community. Central to the identity is a custom, handcrafted font I developed for the event, inspired by the forms and rhythm of Japanese lettering. The swirled illustrations represent the intersection of multiple cultures in America, while also being inspired by Japanese design and illustration. The identity is applied to the festival and all necessary design components; signage, posters, marketing materials, etc. These components are combined with unique type treatment and minimal, organic design elements that reflect the beauty and balance of the gardens themselves. The result is a visually striking, culturally respectful identity that captures the essence of the festival and invites the public to experience the event.
